TEAM PORTO WINS NJYS STATE CUP

Lifting The Trophy
Congratulations PFC Porto! On Sunday Nov 3 Princeton FC U-12 (2008) Boys Porto won the New Jersey Youth Soccer State Presidents Cup. The Porto team joins another two Princeton FC NJYS State Cup winning teams - U-18 Boys United in 2016 and U-16 Girls Napoli in 2018. Team Porto makes history by becoming the youngest PFC team to win a State Cup Title.

To reach the top in this direct elimination competition PFC Porto had to overcome strong opposition. In the first round the team versed Hazlet United away in Hazlet (2-0). In the next round Porto versed the neighbouring team from Montgomery Travelers Lions (5-1) in Princeton. In the Quarterfinal game the draw put Porto against a familiar opponent - Scotch Plains Fanwood Blue - the two teams play in the same EDP Central Atlantic League. Porto won (7-2) in Scotch Plains to qualify for the Semi-finals.
The Semi-final game vs Stafford SC Blaze was played in the Cedar Stars Sports complex in Tinton Falls on Oct 27. Porto won (5-2) to book a spot in the Final.

The Final game against Cinnaminson SC Union lived up to the expectations for an exciting game. After taking the lead in the first half Porto allowed a goal from a free kick in the second half. With 1-1 score at the end of the regular time the game went to overtime. The rules state that two 5 min periods were to be played and if it is still a tie penalty kicks would determine the winner. Still tied after one extra time period Porto started very well the second period and managed to score with 2 min left in the game. That sealed the 2-1 score win and secured the title.

After the game Head Coach Yordan Hristov shared: “This is an incredible achievement for the Porto players and entire Princeton FC family. Having yet another team from our club to represent New Jersey in the Regionals in West Virginia is a great recognition of our organization and our program’s player development model. I am very proud of the players - they played good soccer throughout the entire State Cup campaign and deserved to reach the top. It was a great team effort. Special thanks to all who supported us in this journey.”

PFC Team Porto will travel to Barboursville & Charleston, W.Va. on June 19-23, 2020 to compete in the East Regionals Event.

We wish them the best of luck in their future soccer endeavors!

TEAM PORTO WINS THEIR FLIGHT AT THE RANKED # 1 TOURNAMENT IN THE NATION - EDP CUP FALL

EDP Cup Fall Tournament is a nationally-ranked, highly-competitive event, which serves as the highlight for many club teams' fall seasons. The event hosted some of the best youth 9U-14U boys and girls teams as well as 15U boys from some of the nation's top clubs as well as the US Soccer Development Academy program, the US Youth Soccer National League, and ECNL. Teams traveled from across North America, including out-of-region states Texas, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana and Florida, and 2 Canadian Provinces.

Princeton FC was represented in the tournament by two boys teams - U-12 (2008) Porto and U-13 (2007) Liverpool Black.

The '08 Porto team recorded four wins our of four games to finish on top in their flight. The boys scored a total of 17 goals and allowed only 5. After starting the competition with a win vs Watchung Hill SA Madrid (3-1) the Porto boys met a very challenging opponent in the second game - Liverpool, Michigan. Porto had a great start in that game, scoring 2 goals to get the lead, but gave one back from a perfectly placed free from one of the best Liverpool players. Another great start in the second half saw the Porto team with 4-1 lead, but a penalty kick gave Liverpool a much needed life line and hope. The last 10 minutes of the game were very exciting with situations in front of both goals, however Porto managed to keep the score line unchanged and won 4-2.
On the second day of the tournament Porto began with a win over NJ Stallions Boca (4-1) to secure a place in the Final.
In the Final game Porto met a team they remember well from last Summer. It was considered somewhat unlucky back then when Washington United managed to score one goal in the last second to eliminate otherwise the dominant throughout the entire game Porto team. After missing many good chances to score and secure the spot in the Final, Porto failed to convert and Washington United went on to the Final of last EDP Summer Cassic.
This time around Porto had a better approach and motivation. After only 10 min the team was already leading 3-0. With 4-0 at halftime the Porto boys only needed to stay composed in the second half and secure the win. Washington United managed to score early in the second half (4-1), but that appeared to only motivated Porto more and after some close misses they scored another two goals (6-1), which effectively ended the competitive element in the game.

Congratulations to team Porto for not only winning, but also for playing very good soccer throughout the tournament!

TEAM PORTO WINS 5TH CONSECUTIVE TOURNAMENT - WELL DONE BOYS!

PFC 2008 Boys Porto competed in the top flight of the 2018 Sunburst Tournament - June 2-3. Porto won the first game vs PSA with 5-2 score. The second game on the day vs North Brunswick did not prove to be challenging and Porto had to control the score. The most challenging and interesting game was the first game on Sunday against the very talented Soccer For Life United team. The Porto boys approached the game the right way and were leading 2-0 with 2 min into the first half. They controlled the situation on the field and outplayed the opposition the final score was 7-2. In the last tournament game Porto had to stay composed and disciplined against the Ceder Stars Bergen Green team. With a final score of 8-2 Porto won the top bracket of the tournament.

This was the fifth consecutive tournament team Porto has won. That is a great testament that the boys' hard work in sessions towards improving all aspects of the game pays off.

Congratulations to the players, their parents and the PFC coaching staff!

'08 BOYS PORTO WIN NEPTUNE TOURNAMENT

'08 Boys Porto were placed in the top bracket
of the top flight. The opponents were the talented US Developmental Academy (DA) teams from Ceder Stars Newark and Monmouth, TSF Academy, as well as the strong Ocean Township team.
Impressively our young '08 Porto Boys showed no intention of being an easy opponent and entertained the crowd with four highly dramatic games.

In the first game Porto led 4-3 only to concede an equalizing goal in the last seconds of the game. They tied the resilient Ceder Stars Newark Green team. In the second game team Porto was losing 5-3 with 6 min left in the game when another dramatic finish was in the cards. The team scored three goals, with the last one on the last second of the match to win 6-5. On the second day another two difficult opponents faced Porto, but the boys confidence and belief at each-other proved to be too much for the opposition and Porto won both games vs Cedar Stars Monmouth Green (4-2) and TSF Academy (2-1). PFC finished on top of the 2008 (U-09) Boys Age Group.
That was team Porto's second title in that many Summer Tournaments.

"It has been a great experience for our boys. I was very pleased with boys' efforts and level of performance in this top level environment. They adjusted very well to all challenges this weekend and I am looking forward to see the team's evolution in the months and years ahead." - Coach Yordan Hristov said after the tournament.
