PFC 2002B Boca team becomes the Mid-Atlantic Region Champion!

PFC Boca (2002B) outclassed the Regional opposition in the US Club National Cup - Mid-Atlantic Regionals in what turned out to be hot Summer heat wave temperatures.
The Boca boys had to compete against teams from Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, New York East in their initial group. Our team had a fantastic start wining 5-0 vs Eastern FC Blast 2002 Premier. On the second day Boca boys had to face a much stronger opponent - GPS MA Elite Blue 02 Boys. After the team from GPS opened the score around the 10 min mark, the Boca boys responded in style and equalized with a wonderful long distance shot from Aron Szoke. Ian Pompliano was accurate from close range to give the Boca boys the lead in the second half. Boca kept the lead 2-1 till the end.
On day three of the competition the schedule presented a morning game and a Semi-Final game in late afternoon - both games were played in 90+degrees, but the Boca boys showed competitive spirit and determination and won against the talented team from West-Mont United SA - Premier White (3-1) in the morning and again GPS MA Elite Blue 02 Boys (2-0) in the afternoon. GPS team won the wild card to get to the Semi-Finals, but lost from Boca for the second time.

The Final stage was set - Boca had to play vs PDA South Suarez - the same team that Boca met in the US Club State Cup Final and lost the game after a questionable penalty kick in the last 2 min of the game and the following penalty kicks shootout. With those memories being way too fresh the Boca players were determined to right the wrong and this time around control their own destiny.

Around the 10 min mark Herbert Ramirez received a great through ball and came face to face with the PDA goalkeeper, who had no choice but to faul Herbert and stop him from scoring - inside the penalty. Xavier Guerreiro was accurate from the penalty kick spot.
PDA responded with a press and pushed the Boca team in their half for a few minutes, but could not create any dangerous opportunity to equalize. In the second half both teams had a couple of close opportunities, but no one was able to convert. The last few minutes PDA Suarez pushed hard forward to equalize - Boca defended well and with two minutes left a quick and perfectly executed counter-attack provided Xavier Guerreiro with an opportunity to face the PDA goalkeeper, pushed the ball behind the goalie and scored on open goal for 2-0. That was the exclamation mark in the hard fought game - a well deserved win for Boca and claiming the Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship.

After the game coach Yordan Hristov shared: "This has been a dream season for our team and the Final win here today was a logical outcome of the hard work and team effort throughout the season. The boys performed at a high level despite the hot weather and showed a beautiful soccer. Everyone played a key role for the success - players for the way they competed, parents for their outstanding support and the Club for helping these boys live their dream. We will enjoy a couple of days off and will begin our preparation for the Nationals."

PFC Boca will represent the Club and the Mid-Atlantic Region in the Nationals in Aurora, CO July 20-24.

Congratulations on this wonderful achievement to all players, parents and PFC coaching staff with Head Coach Yordan Hristov.

Best of Luck in the Nationals!
