PFC BAYERN WINS THEIR BRACKET AT THE PRESTIGIOUS PA CLASSIC SHOWCASE

It was a great weekend for the U17 Boys Bayern team. The team participated in the elite showcase in sometimes difficult weather conditions.
In the first game the PFC boys started well with a goal by Vedant Singh to open the score sheet. Unfortunately the lead lasted just a few minutes as the opposition from SOCCER OF COLUMBIA SAC PREMIER WHITE BOYS 2002 (MD) managed to score. For the rest of the game the opposition scored another two unanswered goals to finish the game 1-3.
The Bayern players recovered well after the loss and showed energy and high motivation in the second game. The MARYLAND UNITED FC 2002 PREMIER BOYS (MD) appeard to be a much tougher opponent than the team in the first game, however the Bayern players adjusted well and were very organized. The team from MD struggled to establish a rhythm and most of their attacks ended without a real threat for Bayern's goalkeeper Ivor Havkin. In one of the counter attacks Bayern left full-back Zane Scott crossed from the lest flank, forward Roan Vadakan missed the initial chance, however midfielder Andrew DeLuca was clinical in his finishing and placed the ball in the corner the goal and out of reach for the MD United goalkeeper. With a 1-0 lead the Bayern players worked very hard to stop the oppositions efforts to equalize and deserved the first win of the season.
The stage was set and the scenario was simple - the only way for Bayern to finish on top was to win against the current leader - the team with 6 points and two wins up to that moment - AFFC UNION - BLACK (PAW). A loss or a tie would end those hopes.
It was a heartbreaking moment when a penalty kick was rewarded for the PA West team. Up to that min 20 of the game it was all going according to the plan - the solid defensive efforts of the Bayern back line and the midfielders have been successful against the very dangerous and talented offensive players from AFFC. Sadly a tackle in the penalty box went wrong and the PAW team took a lead from the spot.
That did not demoralize Bayern, exactly the opposite and a much more determined Princeton team emerged. On the wings of a brilliantly executed free kick from Andrew DeLuca Bayern equalized 1-1. Bayern was feeling hopeful and continued to work hard, but another unfortunate moment gave the AFFC team a second penalty kick in this game. It was time for some magic and the Bayern goalkeeper delivered just that - saved the pk and brought the emotions and hopes to a new level. It was very difficult for both teams till the last whistle, but Bayern showed to be the more composed team and won 2-1 against the leader, which gave them the title.

After the game head coach Yordan Hristov reflected - "It was a very charged and competitive atmosphere in which our team found a way to prevail. I am feeling very proud of this strong group of players, who worked extremely hard and demonstrated tough character throughout this competition. It is a great moment for us and should serve as a testament to what this team is capable of."

Congratulations to the players, their parents and the PFC coaching staff for that success!
